G'day and thanks for visiting our website! The ANU Rural Medical Society (ARMS) is the rural health club at the Australian National University, located in Canberra, ACT. It was established in 2004 by the first cohort of medical students at the new medical school and has since grown to over 150 members across the four years of the graduate medicine programme.
Our student members are passionate about rural and remote health, organising many events throughout the year. Some of our activities include:
- Rural High School Visits (RHSV)
- Rural High School Tutoring Programme
- Indigenous Mentoring Programme
- Visits to Indigenous health clinics
- Involvement in Indigenous festivals in NSW
- Rural Show Visits and Men's Pit Stops
- Mental Health Evenings and First Aid Courses
- An annual bushdance at the Yarralumla Woolshed
- An annual Academic Speaker Night
- Attendance at conferences such as the National UniversityRural Health Conference
ARMS also has a special role to play in student advocacy. Med students
are most welcome to contact us if they would like advice or assistance
regarding a rural placement or any other issues regarding rural, remote
or Indigenous health. You can email us confidentially at
